Marian Mohamed is a BAFTA award-winning and Emmy nominated documentary filmmaker based in London.

She won the BAFTA for Emerging Talent in 2021 for her debut documentary DEFENDING DIGGA D, which explored drill music, policing and freedom of expression in Britain. The film was also nominated for Best Domestic Documentary and Best Music Documentary at the Grierson Awards, and won a Broadcast Award.

Most recently, in 2025, Marian directed the three-part series HOSTAGE, filmed across Europe, America and the Middle East. The series followed the story of British photojournalist John and his kidnapping by ISIS, drawing on testimony from those close to him and people who witnessed events first hand. Critics praised it as “jaw-dropping stuff” and “gripping”, with The Guardian calling it “a haunting portrait” of one of the most complex stories to emerge from the Syrian war.

Her work also includes the feature documentary TRUMP: THE CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY CASE, about the Georgia investigation into alleged interference in the 2020 US election, described by critics as “outstanding but blood-chilling” by The Guardian and “searing” by The Times.

Other directing credits include THE ELON MUSK SHOW, charting Musk’s rise from tech outsider to the richest man in the world. The series sold in 154 territories worldwide.

For National Geographic, Marian directed the primetime documentary CULT MASSACRE: ONE DAY IN JONESTOWN, a major hit on Hulu which received an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary” in 2025. Built with rare archive and testimony from survivors and witnesses, the film revisited one of the most shocking mass deaths in modern history with extraordinary intimacy and scale.
